TFI Fun Runs & Active Lecture Series

These 3- 5 mile fun runs are open to runners of all levels and are a great opportunity to come together for a healthy and educational night out. Enjoy some wine and snacks post run while learning about topics that affect runners.  Our expert staff will lead the interactive lectures and demonstrations.  
 
The runs will start at The FIT Institute and will follow a Roscoe/North Center neighborhood 3-5 mile route. You are able to use The FIT Institute locker room facilities (shower, etc before and after the run) and safely store your gear in the lockers. We will meet at the front desk and then head out for the runs! 
The topics will include:
  • 6/13/18 – Proper Running Mechanics and Injury Prevention Exercise Programs
  • 8/15/18 – Guest Lecture with Fuel Stride & Nutrition & Training Programs
  • 9/17/18 – Training for The Trail Runner; Adaptability, Strength & Core

Cross Training for Endurance Athletes

This program is designed to improve STRENGTH and ENDURANCE for the marathon or triathlon competitor.

  • CARDIO CONDITIONING will improve your cardiovascular endurance which, helps you to increase your pace and recovery.
  • PERFORMANCE TRAINING will improve your form, technique, and increase your agility and body awareness.
  • CROSS TRAINING is utilized to develop hip and core stabilizing muscles that are crucial to withstand the duration of the events and decrease the risk of injury.
  • RECOVERY TECHNIQUES are to educate you on how to properly recover from a training session, whether it be in the gym or after a run.

These techniques are essential in decreasing injuries and allowing the body to heal and grow stronger after each workout.
Coached by a certified athletic trainer and strength and conditioning specialist Rachel Farr who’s helped athletes knock off over 60 min of race time!

TFI Arm Care & Performance Therapy Clinic

Arm Care clinic now being offered at The FIT Institute

Before the season gets into full swing, we are excited to provide the opportunity for our players to attend a complementary session at The FIT Institute to learn about proper arm care, stretching and performance training from the experts.  Knowing how to appropriately warm up, stretch & strengthen muscles in your arm can help avoid overuse arm injuries.  We are offering a one hour performance therapy session to enhance performance and reduce the risk of injury for baseball and softball players.  Our goal is to keep your children healthy throughout the season and beyond.

The 60 minute session will teach players and parents some essential techniques to help keep young arms healthy:

  • 15 Minute lecture discussing the importance of arm care and common injuries
  • When to seek medical advice to avoid time out from baseball
  • Proper cross training to improve throwing endurance and precision
  • Arm Warm Up Routines
  • Arm Stretches
  • Arm Strengthening

It’s ok if you missed this clinic.  We are offering Arm Care and Performance Therapy classes every Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00pm-6:00pm.  You can sign up individually or grab some friends and sign up for a small group class.

TFI’s Sports Performance Tent at USOLE’s 4 Mile Classic Run

The FIT Institute has developed a partnership with USOLE running events.  As the featured physical therapy and sports performance therapy partner of USOLE, The FIT Institute will provide on-site Physical Therapists and Athletic Trainers at all of USOLE’s running events.  All runners will have access to The FIT Institute’s Therapy tent where they will receive dynamic pre-race warm ups and post-race cool downs.  Runners will be provided the opportunity to stretch on some yoga mats, use foam rollers, and therapists may assist in some post-race sports stretching.

Complimentary Community Group Training Classes

Meet your fitness goals with our expert trainers

The FIT Institute would like to give back to the community by offering complimentary group fitness classes at 9:00AM the last Saturday of every month.  The sessions will be a blend of functional training mixed with high intensity interval training adjusted to accommodate ANY level of fitness.  Class participants will utilize a variety of gym equipment including: Free weights, suspension straps, medicine balls, sleds, plyo boxes and more.   Our trainers emphasize proper mechanics to ensure safety, maximize results & help you reach your fitness goals.  2018 Dates include:  5/26, 6/30, 7/28, 8/25, 9/29, 10/7, 11/24, & 12/29.  Spots are limited to 15 people per class.
