In the 2014 World Cup, Business Insider tracked the distance covered by players in the  USA vs. Ghana match.  As you can see from the chart below, USA midfielder Michael Bradley ran the most totaling 7.9 miles in one match.  What really surprised me was USA goalkeeper Tim Howard was tracked running 2.9 miles.  Given these stats,  you could argue that endurance soccer training is the most important element for a soccer players conditioning program.
